Brooklyn-based electronic producer J. Viewz has an obvious obsession with sound. “Salty Air” is the fifth release off of his upcoming album Work in Progress, which is a collection of music inspired by the unique effect that VHS tape has on sonic character. The album will be released one song per month on the J. Viewz website. As soon as a track is done in the studio it will be uploaded and shared. Pretty dope idea if you ask me! The video for “Salty Air” is a documentation of film director Shelly Carmel’s vacation time in Barcelona and Israel. In other words, for those of us who don’t get vacations, “Salty Air” is a video to either aspire towards or be jealous of… either way that makes it pretty fucking sweet dude! What I love most about this record is that Kanye proves to everyone that great melodies don’t require a great singer. Most listeners are smart enough to anticipate melodic progression, so the true talent of a vocalist has more to do with their ability to let their personality shine through. Emotion and character trump technicality and range any day. “Runaway” is raw from the lyrics to the vocals and that’s what makes it genius. Let’s feel music again people and stop accepting all this over-produced bull shit. Keep it raw and rugged, honest and desperate. Ya dig??? Peep:
